Schedule includes traditions, food, fun
A look at the events scheduled during the first week of classes at Kansas University:
Today
7 a.m.: Mount Oread Scholars walk up Campanile Hill to begin their college careers.
8 p.m.: Traditions Night at Memorial Stadium, where new students learn about KU traditions.
10 p.m.: Rock-a-Hawk, Lied Center parking lot, dance party.
Tuesday
7 p.m.: Beach ‘N’ Boulevard, with carnival games, live music, food and a student information fair.
10 p.m.: Movie on the Hill, west Campanile hill.
10 p.m.-1 a.m.: Hawk Link Block Party, Wescoe Beach.
Wednesday
1 p.m.-4 p.m.: Take Over the Beach, with cultural performances, information tables, food and games, Wescoe Beach.
8 p.m.: Student convocation, Lied Center.
Thursday
First day of classes. Also, $5,000 Kemper Awards for teaching excellence are distributed to selected faculty members.
Friday
6 p.m.: Free outdoor concert featuring Natalie MacMaster, Lied Center lawn.
Saturday
10 a.m.: Community service project at Wells Overlook. Students will be bused from the Kansas Union.
