Eugene F. ‘Francis’ Strasser

— Funeral Mass for Eugene F. 'Francis' Strasser, 92, St. Paul, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Mr. Strasser died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Labette County Medical Center, Parsons.

He was born May 18, 1910, in Hiattville, the son of Fred and Eugenia (Davied) Strasser. The family lived in Hiattville until moving to rural St. Paul in the early 1920s.

Mr. Strasser had been a farmer. From 1950 until 1975 he worked in the freight house of the M-K-T Railroad in Parsons. After he retired, he was the caretaker for St. Francis Church and cemetery in St. Paul for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Council No. 760; and Commodore Barry General Assembly, Council No. 0294 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Pittsburg.

In the 1950s, he managed the St. Paul men's baseball team.

He married Elizabeth Masser in Girard. She died in March 1943. He married Dorothy M. Westhoff on May 1, 1945, in Walnut. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Francis J., Parsons, James P., St. Paul, and Fred L., Park City, Utah; three daughters, Eugenia "Jeannie" Sanchez, Greeley, Colo., Delores "Dee" Baker, Topeka, and Virginia "Ginny" O'Connell, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A son, Paul E., died Sept. 11, 1992.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home, St. Paul. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
