Area agencies seek volunteers

Agency: Roger Hill Volunteer Center

Address: 2518 Ridge Court

Contact Person: Michelle Heller, 865-5030

The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is having its annual Day of Caring on Sept. 14. Last year’s Day of Caring brought together more than 600 volunteers to complete 110 service projects. One hundred service projects already are lined up for this year, and the Center needs several hundred volunteers. People of all ages and abilities are welcome, but those with carpentry and painting skills are especially in demand. The projects are performed in groups, so volunteering with friends or family is encouraged.

Tasks vary from yard work to donation drives to mailing. Volunteers will receive a free breakfast sponsored by Hy-Vee Food Stores at 8 a.m., and most projects will be completed by 1 p.m. To volunteer or for more information, call the Roger Hill Volunteer Center at 865-5030.

Last week’s results

The Headquarters Counseling Center received two calls as well as hits on its Web site for people wanting to attend volunteer information meeting. The center hopes to have 15 to 18 people in the class. Volunteers would counsel people in a variety of situations both over the phone and in person.
