Kathy Jean Honn

? Services for Kathy Jean Honn, 39, Houston, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at River Oaks Baptist Church, Houston. Burial will be in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston.

Ms. Honn died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2002 in Huntingburg, Indiana.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Gail I. (Wykoff) and Harold E. Honn. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kan., and attended Emporia State, Hays State, Kansas and Baker universities, receiving her bachelor’s degree in human resources in 1990 at Baker.

Ms. Honn was a co-developer of a shelter for homeless, pregnant teenagers in East St. Louis, a case manager for a center for emotionally disturbed children and their families in Lawrence, Kan., a counselor at Ozanam Boys Home in Kansas City, Kan., a house mother at a shelter for unwanted teenagers in Dallas, academic liaison with Wellsville Elementary School, Wellsville, Kan., community services coordinator with the Mid America chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, service coordinator with the hearing impaired and deaf, and activity specialist with Lansing Correctional Facility. She also participated in DARE, Special Olympics and the Cerebral Palsy Games. Since moving to Houston five years ago, she served for four years at River Oaks Baptist School, as a teacher for 4- and 5-year-olds at Poe Cooperative Nursery School, and as an assistant swim coach at the Briar Club.

Survivors include her father, Omaha, Ark.; her mother, Houston; a son, Michael “Peanut” Honn, Houston; a maternal grandmother, Eleanor (Wykoff) Heriford, Princeton, Mo.; and a brother, Michael Honn, Houston.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, Houston.
