Lawrence Police are seeking help identifying suspects in two possibly armed robberies that took place early Saturday.

Based on witness descriptions, detectives believe the two crimes may have been committed by the same person and that more than one person may have been involved.

The first robbery took place about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when a man wearing jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt, his face covered with a white mask, entered the Kwik Shop at 3440 W. Sixth St., acted as if he had a gun and demanded money from the male clerk, Police Det. M.T. Brown said. The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, Brown said, and he was last seen headed northwest from the building.

Several hours later, about 4 a.m., a man matching the description of the first suspect minus the white mask but wearing a dark ball cap demanded money from a clerk at Total, 501 W. Ninth St., Brown said. This time, the clerk believes he saw the barrel of a gun showing from the pocket of the suspect’s sweatshirt, Brown said.

The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and saw him get into an older model, American-made car that headed south down an alley behind the store, Brown said.
