Giambi’s blast lifts Yanks

? Jason Giambi finally got to see the benefits of signing with the New York Yankees. Giambi turned the cheers to boos with his first homer at Yankee Stadium, a high fly over the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium that gave New York a much-needed 7-1 victory Wednesday night over the Baltimore Orioles.

“It’s what you dream about as a kid a curtain call at Yankee Stadium,” Giambi said. “It doesn’t get bigger than that.”

Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 with a leadoff homer, Jorge Posada and Rondell White hit two-run shots and Shane Spencer added a solo homer for New York. The Yankees had lost six of seven games since a seven-game winning streak.

That gave enough support to Orlando Hernandez (2-1), who pitched in and out of trouble for six innings.
