The competition involves a written examination of six questions that must be completed in three hours.

The winner of a $150 first prize in the senior level was Pedro Lei, Macau senior. The $100 winner of the junior level open to all students except seniors was Jeff Bergfalk, Mission sophomore. Also in that category, Michael Bateman, Lawrence junior, placed second to earn a $50 prize.

County to consider corrections financing

Money generated from drug tests, anger-management classes and other services provided by Douglas County Community Corrections would be used to help pay the organization’s employees, under a plan up for approval Monday by Douglas County commissioners.

Commissioners will consider a request from Ron Stegall, the county’s chief executive probation officer, to use about $20,000 in fee-based revenues to defray personnel costs. The money is collected from adult offenders who pay fees for certain services required through the community corrections program.

Commissioners also will review the 2003 comprehensive plan for the county’s community corrections program.

Monday’s meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the county courthouse, 1100 Mass.
