NBA next for Thomas?

After four years of kicking around minor-league and foreign basketball, former Kansas basketball player Billy Thomas may be ready for the NBA.

Thomas scored a game-high 28 points Wednesday as Greenville beat North Charleston, 76-68, to win the NBDL championship.

“I really expect to see Billy on an NBA roster next year,” Greenville coach Milton Barnes said. “If not, he’ll be back with us.”

Thomas this weekend will receive a tryout with the Detroit Pistons.

On Wednesday, Thomas played all 40 minutes and made 7-of-15 shots, including all four of his three-point attempts. He made 10 of 13 free throws, had six steals and made no turnovers.

“They say big-time players come up big in the playoffs,” said Thomas, who last played for the Jayhawks in the 1997-98 season. “I’ve just been on a heavenly roll and shots have been falling.”

Thomas, 26, has played professionally in the USBL and in the Philippines.
