KU to play host to Texas Tech

Kansas University’s baseball team will play host to Big 12 opponent Texas Tech in a three-game series this weekend.

The Jayhawks (15-15 overall, 2-10 Big 12) are riding high after picking up victories against No. 8 Wichita State on Tuesday and Div. II University of Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday.

“I think momentum is not as important as playing well,” coach Bobby Randall said.

Those spurts have included a 10-game winning streak, the longest in school history at the start of a season, but have been countered by eight-game and four-game losing streaks.

The Red Raiders (25-15, 8-10) are tied for second in the conference with a .318 batting average and are third in the Big 12 with a 4.12 ERA.

This is the first conference game for Kansas since Sunday’s game against Texas, and the first home Big 12 game since a doubleheader against Texas A&M on March 10.

“I think it’s always an advantage to be the home team,” Randall said, “to have your own fans, your own ball park.”

Today’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday’s contest will be at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s finale will be at 1 p.m. Jeff Davis (4-1, 3.49 ERA), Dan Olson (3-3, 4.88) and Jake Wright (2-2, 5.01) are the probable starters for Kansas.
