Topeka man dies in truck/train collision

A Topeka man was killed when his tractor-trailer collided with a train Tuesday morning in northeast Franklin County.

Gregorio A. Rodriguez, 44, was thrown from the truck and killed instantly, according to officials with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The truck’s cab was destroyed by fire.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 7:08 a.m. Tuesday about the accident, which occurred at a railroad intersection on Ohio Terrace just south of Shawnee Road, southwest of Le Loup.

Rodriguez was driving south on Ohio Terrace and the BNSF train was westbound.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The truck was owned by Larry Jones Trucking, Topeka.
