In this file photo from Thanksgiving Day 2011, runners embark on a 5K race in North Lawrence.

The annual runLawrence Thanksgiving Day 5K will return this week on what’s expected to be a sunny holiday.

The rain-or-shine 5K run starts at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving — Thursday, Nov. 22 — at Woodlawn Elementary School, 508 Elm St. There will also be a free kids’ fun run, which starts at 9:20.

As of Saturday evening, the National Weather Service in Topeka forecast was predicting sun, with a high near 56 degrees.

The run is also the designated Road Runners Club of America 5K state championship.

Starting Sunday, registration is $35, and it is available online at runlawrence.org/TDay5K.html. Day-of registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m. inside the school gymnasium. Proceeds benefit Woodlawn and local youth running programs.
