Hello everyone and welcome to today’s KUSports.com chat. I’m Ryan Greene, editor of KUSports.com. I’ll be moderating today’s chat, and our guest today is KU commit Conner Teahan, who’s joining us from Rockhurst High School today. Conner, thanks for taking the time today. How’s life treating you these days?

Conner Teahan

Its going pretty well we just won the quarterfinal on Saturday and play this weekend in the state tourney this weekend. So i guess i can say its going real well!

Moderator

Well it sounded like you had a big game against Liberty with, what was it, 34 points? Is this all kind of the cherry on top having now committed to KU?

Conner Teahan

Yes, it definitely is a cherry on top it feels great just because i finally have that weight lifted off of my shoulders by committing to KU a school that i have always loved and my team is doing really well which is great and I myself have been able to contribute to that success.

Well lets get to some questions, as you’ve sacrificed your final hour of class today to talk to our readers.

jayhawk79

Conner, you passed up some scholarship offers to come play at KU. What factors influenced your decision to come to KU when you would not have a scholarship?

Conner Teahan

The biggest factor was my love for Kansas basketball I really don’t care about the whoel scholarship deal because I get to play for the school I have always loved. But also they have made me feel like I am wanted and going to contribute to the team which is awesome.

Displayhawk

If you weren’t going to come to KU, what was your number 2 choice???
BTW, Welcome to the Kansas family and best of luck in the future!

Conner Teahan

Thank you I am excited to be apart of this team. My second choice would probably have been Wichita State just because they were the team that was showning me the most interest besides Kansas I just felt like I wanted to play for Kansas nothing against Wichita State, I just love Kansas.

The last walk-on at KU to make waves in the national media was Christian Moody. Do you feel like you have big shoes to fill?

Conner Teahan

Right now I am not too worried about that. I want to become the best player that I can be I am not worried about what other people have done just what I can do for the team.

Hey Conner it’s gonna be great to have you as a Jayhawk next year! I kept up with you and Tyrel Reed as well as Travis Releford on the KC Pump & Run squad over last year’s AAU season. I love the way you and Tyrel play together and you have an amazing shot! My question is how much of a chance is there of getting the last third of the trio (Travis) for ’08? Being a friend, do you have any “inside info” on that?

Conner Teahan

Haha, I honestly have no idea where Travis is going to play basketball. We never really talked about that kind of stuff but he is a great player and hope that he comes to Kansas. The only inside info that I have is he loves Kansas.

nddhawk

Conner,
Congatulations on becoming a Jayhawk! Recent preferred walkons have had some really good success lately. What area of your game caught Coach Self’s attention and which area are you most proud of?

Conner Teahan

Thank you again and I hope that I can do the same. The area that caught his attention the most would be my ability to shoot from the outside considering I am 6’5 that really appealled to him.

kugirl2012

Heyy conner!
So i was wondering how good of friends are you with Cole Aldrich and Tyrel Reed? And did they have anything to do with you picking KU?

rock chalk!

Conner Teahan

I am very good friends with Tyrel Reed him and I get along really well. As for Cole Aldrich I have yet to really meet him I have played against him several times and know that he is very talented. No, they didnt really sway my decision at all. And to the last question sorry The area I am most proud of would have to be my ability to dribble and penetrate.

Moderator

I also understand you were getting college looks for baseball and football? Why’d you stick with hoops?

Conner Teahan

I actually never played high school baseball, but I did have interest in football. I just wanted to play basketball I think thats where my heart was at and I am happy with my decision.

Moderator

OK guys, we’ve got a few more questions lined up before Conner has to head to practice.

DSommersby

Conner – Congrats on deciding to become a Jayhawk! I understand you have been a lifelong fan of the Hawks. What KU player from the past or present would you compare your game or style of play to?

Best wishes!

Conner Teahan

The player that I would compare myself to right now would have to be a Kirk Hinrich I really can’t handle the ball as well as him but I am more than just an outside shooter. Thank you I am excited.

byron

Do you see your style of guard play fitting in with the KU guards that are on the team now?

Conner Teahan

Right now the way I play the game is a little bit different but the way I will play for KU we will be good counter parts. I am more of a come off picks and shoot or spot up and shoot compared to breaking people done off the dribble.

Conner, I have a feeling this is from a classmate…

HotRodLuke

Conner, how do you feel about Bentham’s theory of utilitarianism? Your 7th hour theology class is quite interested.

Conner Teahan

Haha, Yes that is a classmate and honestly I have no comment.

Moderator

That’s too bad…I was curious to see the extent of your knowledge on the topic…you going to get a chance to watch the Big 12 Tournament with everything going on in Columbia this weekend?

Conner Teahan

I am sure that I will get a chance to watch a couple games but yes I will be very busy this weekend so we will see how it works out.

Moderator

Well best of luck to you against Fort Zumwalt South, and we’ll talk to you again in the future. Thanks again for taking the time to chat today.

Conner Teahan

Thank you and hopefully we do well!

We’ll see you all for another KUSports.com chat next week. Take care.
