Rep. argues for single-payer healthcare system
DENVER – About 100 people at a meeting of the Progressive Democrats of America heard from U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and has introduced HR 676, which would establish a universal health insurance program with a single payer system.Conyers said it is only a matter of time before the proposal is approved because most Americans want such a system.”The only question is how long will it take to get there,” Conyers said. Standing in the way, he said, was “just a few filthy rich corporatists who are making vulgar profits.”
