Eudora boys fall to Bishop Miege in 4A third-place game

The fourth-seeded Eudora High boys basketball team’s season came to an end after a hard-fought 65-55 loss to No. 6 seed Bishop Miege on Saturday in the third-place game in Salina.

Most years, the goal for Class 4A boys basketball teams has been to find a way to get a crack at Bishop Miege in the title game. The Stags have won seven state titles in 10 championship-game appearances during their 17 trips to the final four throughout their years at the 4A level.

But the Cardinals got to see them in the third-place game instead. After knocking off Baldwin in overtime in Round 1, Eudora lost by 20 to top-seeded Hugoton in the semifinals on Friday. Miege lost to No. 2 seed McPherson in the other semifinal game Friday.

Eudora finished its season at 19-6 overall.

“I’m proud of our kids,” EHS coach Kyle Deterding said after Saturday’s loss. “It was fun watching the players compete, today and all year. We had a great group of senior leaders.”
