Kansas volleyball cleans up on road
The 23rd-ranked Kansas volleyball team opened its season with a sweep of Utah Valley at the Utah Classic in Salt Lake City on Friday.
KU defeated Utah Valley 25-10, 25-14 and 25-19 and hit .429 for the match. The Jayhawks also out-blocked Utah Valley 10-3 and led for pretty much the entire afternoon, with just three ties and two lead changes the entire match.
Super-senior Anezka Szabo led the team with 11 kills and sophomore Molly Schultz recorded five aces from behind the serving line.
Sophomore Caroline Bien added eight kills and super-senior Rachel Langs and redshirt freshman Ayah Elnady added five apiece.
The Jayhawks were slated to face host school Utah in the late match on Friday night. Results were not available by the Journal-World’s print deadline.
KU will close out play at the Utah Classic against Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. Saturday.
