Former KU pitcher Blake Goldsberry joins Colorado Rockies organization

Former University of Kansas relief pitcher Blake Goldsberry recently signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Rockies organization.

“Being a hometown kid and getting a chance to play for the Rockies organization is amazing,” Goldsberry said in a news release announcing the signing. “My time at Kansas was an exciting ride. I can’t thank my coaches, teammates, and all of the staff enough for being a part of the journey with me.”

A redshirt senior and team captain during the 2020 season, Goldsberry pitched 10 innings in seven appearances, striking out eight batters and walking one without giving up an earned run.

In five seasons with the Jayhawks, Goldsberry struck out 91 batters in 125 innings over 80 games.

The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native graduated in May and was a two-time Academic all-Big 12 first team honoree.

KU coach Ritch Price praised Goldsberry’s work ethic throughout all five seasons he was with the Jayahwks.

“(He) came into our program as a recruited walk-on and became a scholarship player, which speaks to how hard he has worked at his craft,” Price said in a release. “It is exciting to see him live his dream of becoming a professional baseball player and for all of his hard work and dedication to pay off.”
