2022-23 Journal-World All-Area Teams: Girls Wrestling

The following selections were made by the Journal-World sports staff:

Coach of the Year: Kit Harris, Baldwin High School

Kit Harris

Harris surpassed 300 career dual wins this season, finishing the season with 313 total wins. He led the girls’ team to a 13-2 dual record, a Frontier League championship and sent 10 girls to state.

Wrestler of the Year: Audrey Darnell, Baldwin High School

Audrey Darnell

Darnell, finishing her senior year at 42-4, claimed runner-up honors at the Class 4A state championship wrestling at 140 pounds. Darnell ends her career as the first girls’ state finalist in school history, a two-time state placer and with 107 career wins – No. 1 on the all-time BHS career list.

Madi Hargett, Baldwin High School

Madi Hargett

Hargett, finishing her senior year at 16-8, finished fourth at the Class 4A state tournament. Hargett (235 pounds), holding the second-most wins in the school history (87), is the first and only four-time state qualifier at BHS and holds KWCA Academic All-State honors.

Brianna Mitchell, Baldwin High School

Brianna Mitchell

Mitchell, finishing her junior campaign at 36-11, placed sixth at the Class 4A state tournament. A two-time state qualifier, Mitchell (105 pounds) won the Frontier League championship and is tied for the second-most wins in BHS history with Hargett.

Grace Stean, Tonganoxie High School

Stean, finishing her sophomore campaign at 31-13, placed fifth at the Class 4A state tournament. Stean is a two-time state qualifier.

Daijah Preston, Free State High School

Daijah Preston

Preston, finishing her sophomore campaign at 19-17, wrestled at 140 pounds and is one of two state qualifiers among the Free State and Lawrence High girls’ wrestling teams.

Goldy Stephens, Lawrence High School

Goldy Stephens

Stephens, finishing her freshman campaign at 24-11, wrestled at 190 pounds.

Skyy Hepner, Perry-Lecompton High School

Hepner, finishing her sophomore campaign at 23-10, wrestled at 125 pounds.

Madelynn Arnold, Eudora High School

Maddy Arnold

Arnold, finishing her sophomore campaign at 21-9, is a two-time state qualifier and placed third at regionals this season. Arnold placed fourth at the Frontier League tournament and logged one victory at the Class 4A state tournament.

Kyleigh Musick, Eudora High School

Kyliegh Musick

Musick, finishing her junior campaign at 24-6, placed first at the Frontier League tournament – her third league championship as a Cardinal.

Jordan Dempsey, Eudora High School

Jordan Dempsey

Dempsey, finishing her junior campaign at 29-13, placed second at the Frontier League tournament, fourth at regionals, and logged one victory at the Class 4A state tournament.

Holly Colvert, Tonganoxie High School

Colvert, finishing her senior year at 34-2, finished third at the Class 4A state tournament and is a three-time state qualifier.
