The Kansas softball team couldn’t overcome an early deficit in a 7-4 home loss to Arkansas on Wednesday night at Arrocha Ballpark.

KU (16-9) surrendered five runs in the first two innings and never really recovered after that. The Jayhawks posted their best inning in the bottom of the fourth, when they plated two of their four runs.

It was not KU’s night at the plate, as the team managed just three hits. Of those three hits, two were home runs from Shelby Gayre and Ashlyn Anderson. Leadoff hitter Sydnee Ramsey was responsible for the other hit.

Kansas pitcher Kasey Hamilton was credited with the loss, as she surrendered seven runs (five earned) off 11 hits over seven innings. Hamilton finished with four strikeouts and three walks as well.

Kansas will host Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Friday to begin Big 12 play.
