Thanks to its best offensive performance in four years, the Kansas baseball team cruised to a 20-5 road victory over Lafayette on Tuesday at Kamine Stadium.

The 20 runs scored by Kansas marks the most by the team in a single game since it scored 20 runs against Texas Southern on May 5, 2017. The Jayhawks (13-6) have now won seven in a row, and have won 10 of their last 11 games.

In a day full of remarkable numbers, KU’s offense was led by career performances from Tom Lichty and Skyler Messinger. Lichty went 3-for-5 with a career-high six RBI, three runs scored and a double.

Messinger continued his hot streak as well. After going 8-for-15 against Creighton over the weekend, Messinger went 5-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and four runs. It was his first five-hit game and the first five-hit game by a Jayhawk since Nolan Metcalf did it against Furman in 2019.

Steve Washilewski earned his first start of the season for the Jayhawks. He pitched five innings, while only allowing two runs and striking out four batters to earn the win.

KU will travel to West Virginia at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
