Kansas baseball drops 2-1 decision to Charleston Southern

In a game where both Kansas and Charleston Southern starters pitched a complete game, the Jayhawks fell to the Buccaneers, 2-1, on Friday in the first of four games at Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.

Kansas (2-2) sent redshirt senior Ryan Cyr (0-2) to the mound, and the right-handed pitcher finished with a season-high eight innings and six strikeouts. After allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, Cyr buckled down and didn’t allow another run to cross the plate.

Cyr’s effort was not enough for Kansas, however, as Charleston Southern’s Jaret Bennett matched him on the mound. With Charleston Southern (1-4) holding a two-run advantage, Kansas recorded its lone run of the contest in the seventh inning. Zach Hanna was credited with the RBI on a base knock up the middle.

The two teams will square off in a doubleheader Saturday, with the first game beginning at noon.
