Bishop Seabury boys fall in OT during opening round of state tourney

Bishop Seabury’s run at a 2A state title came to an end Wednesday night at Fort Hays State University. The Seahawks lost in overtime, 63-61.

The Seahawks (16-5) opened up the game up 16-15 after the first quarter, but then entered the half down two. They rallied back to a lead by four after three quarters, 41-37, but would let Ness City back in the game with a 21-point quarter to tie it at 58 and force overtime.

Seabury was then outscored 5-3 in overtime to end their season. Sophomore Zach Bloch led the Seahawks with 29 points on 8-of-18 shooting in the loss. Stavian Jones and Miles Branch each led him with 10 points.

“Feel for my kids, they put a lot into this season and I thought we put ourselves in a great position to keep going,” BSA coach Jonathan Raney said. “Credit to Ness City. They made some big time plays down the stretch.”
