McClure nets 2 weekly honors after strong start to season

Following a four-goal, two-assist opening two matches of the 2019 regular season, Kansas senior forward Katie McClure picked up a pair of accolades.

McClure was named the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week for the first week of the 2019 season, the association announced Tuesday. On the same day, McClure was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. It marked the fifth weekly honor in McClure’s career and the fourth time she has been named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week.

McClure kicked off her senior year by helping the Jayhawks to a pair of impressive season-opening victories. In the opener against Nebraska, she netted the first hat trick of her career and added an assist in KU’s 4-0 win over the Cornhuskers. It marked the ninth hat trick in program history and the second by a Jayhawk in a season opener.

Three days later, McClure again sparked the offense by netting the game’s opening goal just four minutes into KU’s 6-0 win over Loyola-Chicago. She also added an assist in the victory.

McClure’s 10 points, four goals, seven shots, five shots on goal, and two game-winning goals are all tops in the Big 12 after the first weekend of action.
