FSHS softball bounces back with 11-1 win over Leavenworth

At the very least, Free State’s softball team knows how to handle a loss now.

The defending 2018 state champions suffered their first two defeats of the season during a doubleheader Friday. Free State dropped a 5-2 decision to Washburn Rural, which was a rematch of the 6A semifinals from last year. Free State then faltered in a 9-6 loss to Blue Valley Northwest in the nightcap at Complex-Maurer Field.

Free State got back in the win column Saturday, topping Leavenworth by a 11-1 margin. The Firebirds recorded 13 hits, and freshman pitcher Kay Lee Richardson was credited with her second win of the week.

FSHS (11-2) will play host to Gardner-Edgerton at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
