Englund sits in 2nd of heptathlon after day 1 of Kansas Relays

After day one of the 92nd Kansas Relays, three Kansas women’s track & field athletes sit in the top-six in the heptathlon with freshman Toni Englund leading the way for the Jayhawks.

Englund sits in second place with 2,891 points after four events. She finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the high jump and fourth in the 200-meter dash. She also posted a seventh-place finish in the shot put.

Englund’s wind-aided time of 14.64 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and her 26.09-second finish in the 200-meter dash both mark career bests.

Freshman Cameryn Thomas and senior Teri Huslig join Englund in the top six, sitting fourth and sixth, respectively, in the heptathlon after day one. Thomas tallied 2,850 points, while Huslig has 2,728 points.

Thomas notched a third-place finish in the shot put, two fifth-place finishes (high jump and 200m) and a sixth-place finish (100mH). Huslig also posted personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash, finishing with a wind-aided time of 15.44 seconds in the hurdles and a time of 26.04 seconds in the 200 meters.

The trio of Jayhawks wrap up the final three events of the heptathlon at 11 a.m. Thursday.
