Letter to the editor: A big, ugly lie
To the editor:
The Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) is anything but. It is reshaping our form of government, which for all its flaws, has strived to improve the lives of Americans. This bill will do the opposite.
As Heather Cox Richardson explains in Letter From An American, June 2, 2025: The claim that the proposed cuts of more than $700 billion in Medicaid funding is designed to get rid of waste and fraud is a lie. In truth, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the provisions in the bill will cause more than 10.3 million Americans to lose health care coverage.
The claim that the BBB will reduce the federal deficit is also a lie. History has shown that the opposite will occur. The CBO estimates that the proposed tax cuts and added spending will increase the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion.
Many critical programs will be cut, including The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, The National Weather Service and The National Institutes of Health. The effects will be devastating for our individual and national well-being.
Let Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall know they must vote no on this bill.
