Letter to the editor: Reality check

To the editor:

As the political commercials roll out touting how much they are helping and plan to help us, the everyday people, maybe they should take a good, hard look at reality. Inflation has already eaten away any monetary advantage we may have had this year, and the Social Security increase (projected at 5.9%) will not benefit the vast majority of retirees anywhere in the country.

The government estimates that the average individual will get an additional $100 per month in their checks, but if the article in the Journal-World holds true, natural gas costs will eat through that in a heartbeat.  Add in the Consumer Price Index increases of 5.4% so far this year and people are not forging ahead, but are rapidly falling behind. If one adds in the increasing costs of groceries, gasoline, city utilities, city/school district/county taxes, etc., one can easily see that any elected or government official braying about how much they are working for the average person is a false flag — something merely meant to distract one from the true picture.

At least the broadcast media and ad makers will make money off of their expenditures. It won’t be you and me.
