Letter to the editor: Great project

To the editor:

We should offer heartfelt praise to Dan Rockhill and the KU students in his Studio 804 class for their tiny homes project at the Lawrence Community Shelter. This was a great idea, providing ongoing help to those who truly need it.

In addition, Professor Rockhill should be recognized for the outstanding service he is providing his architectural students. The opportunity to learn about the real hands-on work of building what they design is an essential component to an architectural education. In addition, this project taught the students something about the importance of community service.

Another lesson of this project and the related May 15 Journal-World article is that while education is important for the young student, it is more important for society at large. We, the older generation, need to educate our youth so that they can benefit us as we benefited our predecessors.

Well done, Dan. We all need educators who, like you, have great vision. Keep up the good work.

Kurt von Achen,

Eudora
