Letter to the editor: An evil king
To the editor:
If this were a fairy tale, the evil king who took money and vital services from the poor and showered more wealth upon the rich would be punished in the end. Some evil would befall him, or perhaps he would experience a transformation causing him suddenly to behave with justice and equity toward his subjects. In our present real-life predicament, our president has presented Congress with a budget that slashes billions of dollars from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. He has also proposed reductions in support of housing and education, and of nutrition assistance for the poor and food insecure.
Meanwhile, $2 billion will go toward his border wall, and there will be increased spending for the military, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the weaponizing of space.
What story is this? Is this our country? I write with deep concern regarding our state representatives’ decisions concerning the distribution of our country’s wealth. How will this story evolve?
