Letter to the editor: Giving our money away

To the editor:

Congressional approval ratings hover around 21% approval. Ever wonder why? After months of wrangling, they come up with a stimulus package for the American people and businesses. So what’s in it? Five-hundred million for the Jordanian Defense Fund, $35 million for Venezuelan democracy, $86 million for Cambodia, $30 million for Nepal, $135 million for Burma, $433 million for Ukraine, $700 million for Sudan, $15 million for gender programs in Pakistan, and a fund to educate people about the dangers of storing fuel near open flames.

Are you kidding me? Please someone give me a good explanation as to how all this largesse stimulates our economy, gets people off of the unemployment rolls, helps them pay their bills that are past due, gets food on their tables.

Give me a break.

Ken Meyer,

Lawrence
