Suspect arrested after child killed in hit-and-run in Wichita

Wichita — Police arrested a suspect Monday after a 4-year-old child was killed in a hit-and-run in downtown Wichita.

The child was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street with his mother, Capt. Wendell Nicholson said. They were in a crosswalk at the time.

The truck did not stop but was located about 100 yards from the scene, KWCH reported. The boy was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital. His mother was not hurt.

Marcus Downey, 32, was arrested later Monday on possible charges of felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license, Nicholson said.
