The Lawrence school board will convene for a special meeting on Saturday for its annual retreat.

The meeting will serve as an opportunity for the board to meet for a longer period of time for various purposes. No action will be taken during the meeting.

According to an agenda for the meeting, the board plans to meet with representatives from the Kansas Association of School Boards, the Kansas Leadership Center and the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. The board is also scheduled to receive training on the Kansas Open Meetings Act.

Although historically known as a retreat, the district noted that the meeting is now called “an advance” because the board didn’t like the connotation of the word “retreat.”

The meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lawrence High School, 1901 Louisiana St.
