A Lawrence man has been charged with felony battery after he was allegedly driving drunk and crashed, injuring a passenger in his car.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of 10th and Tennessee streets when a white Volkswagen going west collided with a black Jeep Wrangler driving south, said Sgt. Drew Fennelly with the Lawrence Police Department.
Investigators at the scene said they found evidence that the driver of the Volkswagen, Kamar Kanye Howard, 20, was under the influence, Fennelly said. A 28-year-old man who was riding with Howard was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The three people in the Jeep were unharmed, Fennelly said.
Howard has been charged with aggravated battery in Douglas County District Court. He was released Monday on a $25,000 own recognizance bond, meaning he was not required to pay any money to be released from jail. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a status conference.
