A nominating commission has selected a Lawrence woman as one of three possibilities to fill the vacancy on the Kansas Court of Appeals.

Jacy J. Hurst, of Lawrence, is a partner at Kutak Rock, where she provides general legal counsel in health care regulatory compliance and employment law, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Laura Kelly. Hurst received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and her law degree from the University of Kansas, and she also has served as chair of the Douglas County United Way Board of Directors, according to the release.

The other two nominees are Angela D. Coble, of Salina, and Russell J. Keller, of Fairway. Coble is a judicial clerk for U.S. District Judge Gwynne E. Birzer. Keller is of counsel with Forbes Law Group LLC in Overland Park, according to the release.

The Court of Appeals vacancy was created when Melissa Taylor Standridge was appointed to the Kansas Supreme Court. Kelly will select one of the three nominees, and the Kansas Senate will vote on whether to confirm the appointment.
