A 19-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Friday evening on suspicion of rape, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.

The man is accused in connection with a rape that was reported to Lawrence police just after noon on Saturday, Nov. 9. A person by the same name is listed as a student in the KU directory.

The man was arrested at his home address, 1301 West Campus Road, according to the booking log.

The building previously housed the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter at the University of Kansas, which in 2018 was suspended for four years after multiple health and safety violations, the Journal-World previously reported. According to a Facebook post from Sigma Pi, that fraternity moved into the house this fall.

“This house signifies a new beginning for our chapter, and we plan to get it right as best we can,” an April 27 Facebook post from the fraternity says. “We don’t take the responsibility of having a house lightly, and we certainly don’t want to dishonor that responsibility. Going forward, this chapter will strive to instill character, moral responsibility, and fellowship in its members, in the University of Kansas, and the Lawrence community as a whole.”

A person by the same name is also listed on a webpage for the fraternity.

As of Friday night, the man was being held without bond in the Douglas County Jail, records indicate. No charges had been filed against him in Douglas County District Court.
