Homes south of Lawrence that were devastated by a tornado on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, are viewed from the air on Wednesday, May 29.

Organizers are looking for more volunteers to help clean up damage caused by last week’s tornado.

Douglas County Emergency Management encourages anyone interested in helping to check in at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road. The church, near the tornado’s path south of Lawrence, is the newest location for the county’s volunteer reception center.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, June 9. Organizers would prefer that volunteers check in before 5 p.m.

County residents needing help with cleanup are encouraged to call 2-1-1. In addition, the American Red Cross has opened a service center to help individuals and families whose homes were damaged. The center, at the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center, 2920 Haskell Ave., will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and can provide cleanup kits, water, bug spray, trash bags and other supplies, Douglas County Emergency Management said.
