Family of 7 displaced after structure fire near KU’s West Campus

A structure fire Wednesday afternoon displaced a family of seven, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

Crews were dispatched to 1906 Marvonne Road, a home near the University of Kansas West Campus, at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, the release said. There they found that the home’s attached garage was on fire. The fire was under control about 20 minutes later.

The residents had evacuated before first responders arrived, and there were no injuries to the residents or to fire department personnel, the release said. The American Red Cross was on scene assisting the family Wednesday evening.

The fire was still under investigation and initial damage estimates were unavailable Wednesday.
