Lawrence police took a 27-year-old man into custody without incident after a standoff in the 900 block of Arkansas Street Tuesday evening.

Officer Drew Fennelly told the Journal-World via email that police were dispatched to an apartment in that block in reference to gunshots being fired just before 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers evacuated neighboring residents and started trying to make contact with the suspect, Fennelly said, and after “sporadic telephone contact” over roughly 90 minutes, police were able to convince the suspect to come out.

No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to determine whether any shots were fired, Fennelly said.

Fennelly did not immediately respond to a follow-up email asking whether anyone else was in the apartment at the time.
