A University of Kansas dean is leaving his post to become the top official of another institution.

Mahesh Daas, leader of KU’s School of Architecture and Design, will leave to become the next president of Boston Architectural College, interim provost Carl Lejuez said in a message to campus Wednesday. He takes over the position on July 12, according to a Boston Architectural College news release.

Daas has served as the dean of the school since June 2015. Prior to KU, he served as a professor and chair for the Department of Architecture at Ball State University in Indiana.

Lejuez said Daas has worked “tirelessly” to help the architecture school.

“During his time, he built a bold vision for the school and did so through curricular innovations, targeted research development efforts, and enhanced relationships with external constituencies,” Lejuez said. “This vision was instrumental in several key advancements including the development and implementation of the new interior architecture and design program and several interdisciplinary research centers, as well as a revitalization of the school’s external advisory board.”

Lejuez said he plans to share information about finding a replacement for Daas sometime next week.
