Forty-three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Douglas County since Friday, according to information Monday from Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health.
The cumulative case count for the county now stands at 9,685, with 233 cases currently active.
On Monday, nine in-patients were being treated for the virus at LMH Health, which is three more than on Friday.
Douglas County’s 14-day moving average of new COVID-19 cases per day has increased by 14 in the past two weeks, marking the steepest increase since January.
Health officials are urging all eligible people — that’s everyone 12 and older — to get the vaccine, especially in light of the more contagious delta variant that’s on the rise throughout the country.
Anyone interested in booking a vaccine appointment or learning more about incentives for getting vaccinated can visit LDCHealth.org/COVIDVaccine.
“As we have seen higher numbers of new cases, we have also seen a recent increase in individuals seeking first doses of the vaccine, which we find encouraging,” the health department said in a release Monday.
The health department warns that this is a critical time for the community with COVID cases increasing and the presence of the delta variant. Several vaccine clinics are scheduled for coming days. A few examples from LDCHealth.org/Calendar follow, but check the site for the full list of vaccine clinics.
