“Summertime in South Park” will be the theme Wednesday night during the Lawrence City Band’s first outdoor concert of the season, which will run through mid-July.

The band, conducted by Paul Popiel, will play an assortment of tunes, including “Appalachian Overture,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Eighties Flashback.”

The band, which performs a summer series every year, will play in South Park at 8 p.m. every Wednesday through July 17, when it will host its grand finale. The concerts are free and open to the public. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

The Lawrence City Band concerts are sponsored by Lawrence’s Parks and Recreation Department with assistance from the Rice Foundation.
