Daniel Wildcat, a longtime Haskell Indian Nations University faculty member, will continue as acting president of Haskell through March 18, according to a news release Friday from Haskell.

Wildcat took over temporary leadership Nov. 20, after Tony Dearman, the director of the U.S. Bureau of Indian Education, announced that the current president, Venida Chenault, would be on special assignment for the BIE for up to 60 days.

Chenault’s 60 days of leave would have ended Jan. 21. Wildcat will now stay on until mid-March. Friday’s news release did not mention Chenault.

The university had no other comment, said Stephen Prue, executive assistant to the Haskell president.

The BIE was not available for comment Friday because of the partial shutdown of the federal government.
