Douglas County scouts to collect food Saturday as part of 32nd annual food drive

Scouts will be going door to door collecting food on Saturday throughout Douglas County as part of the 32nd Annual Scouting for Food event.

Many residents in Lawrence, Baldwin City and Eudora received flyers last week alerting them to the food drive that will benefit four area food banks. Residents are encouraged to set out a bag of canned food or other such food items near their front doors by 9 a.m. on Saturday. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and members of other organizations including Girl Scouts and 4-H clubs will collect the items.

The Salvation Army, ECKAN, Catholic Charities, and Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry will share the donations, Jim Evers, an organizer of the event and director of development for The Salvation Army, said.

The drive collected a little more than 8,700 food items last year, he said.
