Ninth Street to close for several days between Emery and Iowa

West Ninth Street between Emery Road and Iowa Street will soon close for construction projects, including sanitary sewer work, stormwater system repairs and street patching, according to a news release from the City of Lawrence.

The closure is slated to occur over five days, from Monday through July 23.

The roadway will close at 9 a.m. Monday and will remain closed until the work is completed. The road is expected to be reopened by the afternoon of July 23. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Sixth Street, using Iowa Street on the west edge of the work and Tennessee Street and Kentucky Street on the east edge, the release said.

Local traffic will be maintained at all times. Property owners and/or occupants will be given a minimum of 48 hours notice of any access restrictions to their property and a minimum of 24 hours notice of any planned sewer service interruptions.

Transit bus Route 4 will be affected. To find more information about the reroute, visit lawrencetransit.org or call 785-864-4644.

The work has been coordinated through multiple city divisions to reduce the number of times the roadway is closed throughout the year, the release said.

All project timelines are subject to change because of weather and other project-related delays. For more information on construction projects and traffic alterations in Lawrence, visit lawrenceks.org/construction/.
