Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas to provide info on how to assist Afghan, other asylum seekers

Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas Community Sponsorship Program

Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas will hold a meeting Monday to present information about how groups and individuals can assist Afghan and other asylum seekers.

Melissa Lukes, of the organization’s refugee community sponsorship program, will give the presentation, according to a news release. Lukes’ presentation will discuss the process of resettlement of refugees and asylum seekers, common challenges they face and common misunderstandings.

Lukes will outline Catholic Charities’ program of Refugee Community Sponsorship, which has three levels of commitment. Information on current Afghan resettlement in Kansas will be covered as will additional opportunities for individuals and groups to participate.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. The event is free to attend, but space is limited. A live stream will also be available online. Those interested in attending the in-person event or the online version can register on the Arts Center website, Lawrenceartscenter.org.
