Rumors of a threat against Lawrence High School turned out to be just that, Lawrence Police Department officers have concluded.

Julie Boyle, the Lawrence school district’s director of communications, sent out an alert Wednesday morning to notify LHS parents of a police investigation into a supposed threat made against the school.

The investigation, prompted by social media reports of the unspecified threat thought to be directed at LHS, revealed the rumors to be untrue. Boyle said it was her understanding that the threat “involved violence toward a school in a neighboring community.” Which neighboring community was not specified.

Even so, Lawrence police officers — in addition to the school resource officers and security guards who are regularly assigned to LHS — were present at the school Wednesday morning as a safety precaution, Boyle said.
