FSHS volleyball perfect at SME

? Free State High’s volleyball team went undefeated in three matches on Thursday at the Shawnee Mission East quadrangular.

The Firebirds swept every set, beating Shawnee Mission Northwest, 25-8 and 25-17, Shawnee Mission North, 25-12, 25-12, and Shawnee Mission East, 25-14, 25-12.

“I’m real happy to get three league wins,” FSHS coach Nancy Hopkins said. “Vast improvement from last week.”

Free State (3-2) was paced by Naomi Hickman, who led with 15 kills and 11 blocks, and Emma Barberena, who had 11 kills.

Payton Gannaway also had eight service aces, Paige Corcoran added 22 digs and Lauren Johnson had 17 assists.

The Firebirds will play today in Lee’s Summit (Missouri) West’s Mo-Kan Invitational.
