Free State golfers qualify for state

? Free State High’s girls golf team qualified for the state tournament by placing third at regionals Tuesday at Stagg Hill Golf Course.

Emily Bermel led the Firebirds by finishing seventh with a round of 85. Teammate Karen Campbell was right behind in eighth place after firing an 87. Ann Goebel placed 15th with a 101, Savannah Reeb 18th with a 109, Erin Myers 20th with a 112 and Sydney Buller 21st with a 117.

Washurn Rural, Manhattan and Free State each advanced to state. Washburn Rural won the tournament with a team total of 326, followed by Manhattan (369), Free State (382), Derby (482), Wichita Southeast (499) and Topeka High (691).

The state tournament will be held Monday at Topeka Country Club.
