Firebirds golfer moves to first in Sunflower League; FSHS 2nd at O-North

? Free State sophomore Jack Flynn moved into first place in the Sunflower League boys golf standings after finishing second on Monday in the Olathe North Invitational at Falcon Ridge.

FSHS senior Hunter Dedloff finished third to help the Firebirds take second place at the 11-team invitational, which doubled as the second leg in the league championship.

The Firebirds finished with a total of 322, just three strokes behind Shawnee Mission East, which took first place.

Flynn, who carded a two-over 74, led after the front nine after shooting a tournament-low 36. Dedloff shot the second-lowest score on the back nine, 36, to finish with a four-over 76.

Olathe East’s Zach Spencer won the individual title with a 72, while SM East had four golfers in the top 10.

Lawrence High senior Narito Mendez and sophomore Dawson Dykes shot an 11-over 83 to lead the Lions. LHS took fifth place with a total of 336.

FSHS and LHS play next at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Olathe Invitational at St. Andrews. The final round of the Sunflower League Championship will be the Lawrence Invitational, May 14 at Alvamar.
