KU prof accepts job as dean of law at University of Tennessee

Melanie Wilson of the Kansas University School of Law will be the next dean of the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Wilson will begin her job at University of Tennessee July 1, UT recently announced.

At KU, a successor to take on Wilson’s administrative duties will be announced in the spring, KU spokeswoman Erinn Barcomb-Peterson said. No external search is planned.

At KU School of Law, Wilson is associate dean for academic affairs — overseeing the law school’s degree and certificate programs, academic regulations and course scheduling — and a professor — specializing in criminal procedure.

She is a former federal prosecutor, serving as an assistant U.S. attorney in Georgia for six years and assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia for four years before turning to teaching.

“Melanie Wilson brings a wide range of leadership experience and legal scholarship,” UT Provost Susan Martin said in a press release. “She will help build upon the many strengths of the college.”
