Letter: Get to work

To the editor:

C’mon, Lawrencians, what’s your problem? You all need to shape up and get with the plan. Put down that beer, guitar and poetry book and get rid of that easel. Didn’t you hear  the anger and disappointment of The Chamber president and editor regarding your lousy economic performance (“Pretty discouraging,” Journal-World, Aug. 20)?

You need to “roll up your sleeves” and go get a job selling plastic widgits at one of those big box stores so you can buy another car and more stuff. Since economic growth is the only true measure, don’t dare to mention congestion, environmental degradation or crass materialism. Who knows? If we all work real hard, in a decade or so, Lawrence could become a carbon copy of Johnson County.
